Cindy recently sent me a list of subjects she would like me to cover in some posts. One of the subject was decluttering with friends. Although this sounds like a fun approach to decluttering I personally have had no experience of it aside from palming my unwanted stuff off onto them. Unfortunately my friends still love to shop and have not embraced my minimising lifestyle at all. What I would like though, in order to satisfy Cindy's desire for the subject, is to canvas my readers on any experience you have had with this. If you have a story to share with me please send me an email through … [Read more...]
Day 149 Quick clutter check list
Questions to ask yourself when you are deciding what stays and what goes when decluttering How long since I last used this:- If you are keeping an item just because maybe you might need it some day then it is probably clutter. Is it still useful to me:- Do I still use this item or even participate in the activity that this item is used for if not then it's clutter. Is it in working condition:- If an item is broken and you do not have the expertise to repair it or you are not prepared to pay the price to have it fixed then it is clutter. Day 129 Learn to love the process of decluttering
I no longer look at the decluttering process as a chore in fact I really enjoy it. I look for the positive in in every little effort I make. I no longer focus on the enormity of the task and just revel in the good feelings I get every time a piece of clutter leaves my house. I have almost forgotten what the feeling is like that is evoked by retail therapy. I think I was pretty much over … [Read more...]
Day 84 Read posts and blogs
It can be very helpful to read about other peoples experiences with de-cluttering their homes. There are so many helpful tips out there on the big Wide World Web and I will explore more of them and add some more links on my page as I find time. I have noticed while reading a few over the last couple of days that the biggest mistake for most people is setting to0 high goals. I believe, one day at a time, one room at a time, one drawer at a time are often goals easier reached and less daunting to consider. Do what works for you and if something looks too much to handle move to another area … [Read more...]
Day 76 Sometimes we need help
Lets face it, we all have clothes in our closet we haven't worn for some time that for one reason or another we are reluctant to part with. Well, today I have a plan to help you sort out your closet and at the same time take away the difficult part of that task, choosing. Pick a friend someone you have known for a least a couple of years who you trust and value their opinion. Ask them to help you go through your closet and decide for you the items that they feel need to go. Since they have known you for a reasonable amount of time they will know what clothes they have never or rarely seen … [Read more...]
